Two dead, 200 houses pulled down as flood wrecks havoc in Bauchi

Two persons including a 15-year old boy and 60-year old woman have lost their lives following a flood caused by a heavy rain in the Adamami village in Shira Local Government Area of Bauchi on Monday night.

The downpour which has continued to wreck havoc in vulnerable communities has claimed at least five lives in the last three weeks in the state.

Apart from claiming two lives on Monday night, the flood also pulled down over 200 houses while about 3000 hectares of farmlands were washed away. Several people also sustained varying degrees of injuries as a result of the downpour.

Check revealed that residents of Adamami village spent sleepless nights trying to rescue their women and children who were trapped in the debris of some of the collapsed houses.

The Permanent Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Shehu Habu who confirmed the unfortunate development said ”according to the report we received from our assessment team and the Local Government assessment team, two people lost their lives yesterday in the devastating flood, a 15-year old boy and a 60-year-old woman while the third person was injured.

”A lot of houses, farmlands were also destroyed. We have written a memo to the governor for an immediate relief assistant,” he said.
