In a bid to revitalize key sectors and address critical challenges facing Abia State, Governor Dr. Alex Otti has unveiled a comprehensive agenda aimed at driving sustainable development and enhancing the well-being of residents across the state. During his Monthly Media Briefing themed “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians,” Governor Otti outlined ambitious initiatives spanning education, healthcare, infrastructure, security, employment, and agriculture.
A key highlight of the Governor’s address was the commencement of the reconstruction of thirteen classrooms in each of the seventeen Local Government Areas of Abia State, with a focus on improving both primary and secondary education facilities. Governor Otti emphasized the importance of creating conducive learning environments for pupils and affirmed the government’s commitment to supporting legitimate traders while cracking down on criminal activities within the Lokpanta Cattle Market.
Furthermore, Governor Otti announced significant reforms in the education sector, including an increase in the retirement age for teachers and the implementation of attractive packages to make the teaching profession more appealing in Abia. In the healthcare sector, the Governor unveiled plans to establish the “Abia State Medical Village,” a state-of-the-art medical facility that aims to provide top-notch healthcare services to residents.
In the area of infrastructure, Governor Otti highlighted ongoing road construction projects, including the reconstruction of the Osisioma-Ekeakpara road, as well as the maintenance and commissioning of numerous roads across the state. He reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing road networks to facilitate economic growth and improve connectivity for residents.
On the security front, Governor Otti announced the inauguration of the Abia State Security Advisory Council, aimed at bolstering the state’s security architecture. The Council, chaired by former Chief of Army Staff Lt General Azubuike Ihejirika, will collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure the safety and security of residents.
Governor Otti also underscored the government’s efforts to empower youth and women through various agricultural empowerment programs and financial support initiatives. Additionally, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of pensioners by ensuring prompt payment of pensions.
Addressing questions regarding political defections, Governor Otti emphasized the importance of good governance over partisan politics, asserting that political parties are akin to churches where individuals are free to choose their affiliations. He stressed the government’s focus on delivering tangible benefits to the majority of Abians and urged residents to support initiatives aimed at driving progress and development across the state.
