Awka, Anambra State – Anambra State is taking decisive steps to reinvigorate the sports sector as part of its broader efforts to revive the economy. Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to this endeavor during the grand finale of the Anambra Sports Solution festival held at the Awka Township Stadium on Saturday.

Representing Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Dr. Ibezim emphasized that the sports sector plays a vital role in the current administration’s agenda for social development and reorientation. Recognizing its potential as a major driver of economic growth, the government aims to revitalize and reposition the sector to attract sports enthusiasts from around the world.

Dr. Ibezim urged students to embrace sports alongside their academic pursuits, highlighting that sports has not only helped individuals realize their full potential but has also provided avenues for wealth creation.

Mr. Patrick Onyedum, Chairman of the Anambra State Sports Commission, disclosed that over 600 schools registered for the Solution School Sports Festival. Outstanding athletes from the competition will have the opportunity to represent Anambra State at the National Sports Festival scheduled for September.

The Anambra Sports Solution festival featured various sports disciplines such as football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, chess, taekwondo, swimming, scrabble, and cricket, among others. Vision High School Nnewi, Ide Secondary School Enugwu-Ukwu, and Rosa Mystica Girls Agulu emerged as the top performers, receiving cash prizes of N1.5 million, N1 million, and N500,000 respectively.
