Illegal Sit-at-Home Attempt Thwarted: Enugu State Police Command Crushes Gang of Gunmen.

Enugu, Nigeria – The Enugu State Police Command has dealt a major blow to criminal elements attempting to enforce an illegal sit-at-home order in the early hours of Friday. A four-man gang of gunmen was successfully neutralized by the police, as announced by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, in Enugu on Friday evening.

Earlier in the day, the Awkunanaw Division of the Enugu State Police Command intercepted the gang as they were in the act of seizing an Enugu State Transport Company (ENTRACO)-branded Sharon mini-van at gunpoint in the One-Day area of Awkunanaw, Enugu. A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued between the criminals and law enforcement officers. Although the gang managed to escape, they sustained serious gunshot injuries.

However, the police’s thorough search of the vehicle yielded significant results. Among the recovered items were an AK-47 rifle, loaded with a magazine containing 19 live rounds of 7.62 calibre ammunition, two bottles of petrol bombs, and other incriminating evidence.

Providing an update on the operation, the PPRO stated, “Further to the earlier report on Police Operatives serving in Awkunanaw Division of the Command, dislodging armed subversive criminal elements, who attempted to enforce the illegal sit-at-home order, in the early hours of today, 07/07/2023, a combined team of tactical Police Operatives of the Command have further discovered and recovered the lifeless bodies of four (4) of the male hoodlums, in a forest behind G. Ede Filling Station/7-Up, at Awkunanaw, Enugu, where they escaped into.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Ammani, expressed his gratitude to the police and other security forces in the state for their unwavering commitment to maintaining maximum security and ensuring the safety of law-abiding citizens. CP Ammani also extended his appreciation to the public and urged them to continue supporting the police in their efforts.
