Police Bust Suspected Kidnap, Robbery Ring in Enugu, Recover Guns and Hard Drugs
Three suspects arrested in separate intelligence-led operations as police seize firearms, ammunition and large quantities of suspected illicit substances.
The Enugu State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its fight against crime, arresting three suspects linked to armed robbery, kidnapping and drug trafficking while recovering firearms, ammunition and suspected hard drugs during coordinated operations across the state.
The Enugu State Police Command has arrested three suspected criminals linked to armed robbery, kidnapping and drug trafficking in separate operations, recovering firearms, ammunition and suspected illicit drugs.
The breakthrough followed intelligence-driven operations carried out by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), reinforcing ongoing efforts to crack down on criminal networks operating within the state.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, two suspected armed robbers and kidnappers, identified as Ogbonna Chinonso, 22, and Nnachi Cypril, 35, were arrested on May 30 at a drinking spot located along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway.
Firearms and Ammunition Recovered
Police operatives recovered a cache of weapons from the suspects, including:
• One locally-made revolver pistol
• One cut-to-size double-barrelled gun
• Six rounds of 9mm ammunition
• One live cartridge
The suspects are currently assisting investigators as efforts continue to uncover possible links to other criminal activities within and outside the state.
Drug Peddler Nabbed in Separate Raid
In another operation carried out earlier on the same day, police operatives raided a suspected criminal hideout in the Trans-Ekulu area of Enugu.
During the raid, officers arrested Izunna Ani, 36, who is suspected of engaging in illicit drug trafficking.
Large quantities of substances believed to be the dangerous synthetic drugs commonly known as “Loud” and “Kolos” were recovered from the location.
Police Commend Operatives
Reacting to the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, praised the officers involved for their professionalism and dedication.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and sustained operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks across the state.
Residents Urged to Support Crime Fight
The Commissioner also appealed to residents to continue providing credible and timely information that could assist security agencies in combating crime.
According to him, community cooperation remains vital in ensuring the safety and security of lives and property.
Police authorities confirmed that all suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
