Tinubu Commends NDLEA Over Major Transborder Drug Bust

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) following the dismantling of a Nigerian-Mexican drug syndicate and the disruption of a multi-million-dollar transnational drug network.

The commendation was conveyed in a statement issued in Abuja by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.

The breakthrough was announced by NDLEA Chairman, retired Brigadier-General Buba Marwa, who disclosed that the operation followed weeks of intelligence gathering and coordinated actions involving NDLEA operatives and international security partners.

According to the agency, the operation led to the arrest of foreign nationals, local kingpins, and several collaborators, alongside the seizure of chemicals and illicit drugs valued at more than 360 million dollars.

President Tinubu described the operation as a major achievement in Nigeria’s fight against organised crime, narcotics trafficking, and transborder criminal networks that pose threats to national and regional security.

He praised the professionalism and commitment displayed by the operatives and encouraged them to sustain the momentum in tackling illicit drug activities.

The president also warned that West Africa has increasingly become a transit route for cocaine, synthetic narcotics, and unregulated pharmaceutical products destined for Europe and North America.

He noted that beyond security concerns, drug trafficking continues to endanger young people across the region through addiction and criminal exploitation.

Tinubu called on Nigerians to support security agencies by remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious activities that could help expose criminal operations and illegal trafficking networks.

He stressed that the successful operation sends a strong message that Nigeria remains committed to confronting organised crime and ensuring offenders face justice.
