President Bola Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in Oyo State and directed the deployment of a specialised rescue team following the abduction of pupils and teachers from schools in Oriire Local Government Area.

The development was disclosed during a visit by a high-powered Federal Government delegation to Esiele and Yawota communities on Sunday, where officials conveyed the President’s concern over the incident and reassured residents of ongoing efforts to secure the safe release of the victims.
The pupils and teachers were abducted on May 15, 2026, from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School, triggering widespread concern among residents and education stakeholders.
According to the Presidency, Tinubu has directed the deployment of a specialised security unit equipped with advanced rescue capabilities to intensify efforts aimed at locating and rescuing the abducted victims.
The President also ordered that the rescue mission be intelligence-driven and carefully coordinated to ensure the safety of those held captive.
During the visit, the Federal Government delegation met with community leaders and local lawmakers, who raised concerns about the security situation in the area and requested the establishment of a military base to enhance protection for residents.
The delegation assured the communities that their request would be forwarded to the President for consideration and possible approval.
The latest intervention forms part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to tackle insecurity, protect schools, and improve safety in vulnerable communities across the country.
