Burial Begins for Teacher Killed in Oyo School Attack

Burial arrangements have begun for Adesiyan Adegboye, the teacher killed during the recent attack on schools in Oyo State, as security agencies continue efforts to rescue abducted students and teachers.
Burial rites have commenced for Adesiyan Adegboye, the teacher who lost his life during last Friday’s coordinated attack on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The funeral activities began on Friday at Ayegun Baptist Church, where family members, colleagues and sympathisers gathered to pay their final respects.
Adegboye, 49, was killed during the attack carried out by armed assailants at Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School and L.A. Primary School, Esiele.
He is scheduled to be laid to rest later on Friday at his residence in the Owolake area of Ogbomoso.
The attack, which reportedly occurred around 9:30 a.m., led to the abduction of several teachers and students and triggered fear across the affected communities.
Following the incident, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, visited the area and directed the deployment of additional detectives from Force Headquarters to strengthen rescue operations.
Authorities said the reinforcement was aimed at supporting efforts to secure the safe release of those abducted.
Governor Seyi Makinde earlier disclosed that seven students were taken from Community Secondary School, while 18 pupils and seven teachers were abducted from First Baptist Primary and Nursery School.
The governor also confirmed that one person died during the incident.
The attack has heightened concerns over school safety in Ogbomoso and surrounding communities, with some parents withdrawing their children and some schools temporarily suspending activities amid security fears.
