A private security guard has reportedly disappeared with two six-year-old children belonging to his employer in Minna, Niger State, in a case the police suspect may be an abduction.
The suspect, identified as Sani Abdulrahaman, said to be of Fulani origin, allegedly took the twin boys, Umaru and Anas, on a Sallah picnic on Sunday without the knowledge or consent of their father, Alhaji Danjuma, a prominent businessman.
According to the distraught father, the security guard failed to return home with the children after leaving with them earlier in the day, prompting fears for their safety and an urgent search operation.
Danjuma revealed that later on Sunday evening, he received a phone call from an unidentified individual claiming to be with the children in Erena Forest, located in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
The caller reportedly demanded an undisclosed ransom in exchange for the release of the boys, intensifying concerns that the children may have been kidnapped.
Appealing to the public and security agencies for assistance, the father urged anyone with useful information to come forward to help secure the safe return of his sons.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the case was reported at about 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31.
Abiodun explained that the security guard allegedly claimed he was taking the children out to celebrate Sallah in town but failed to bring them back.
“The police suspect a case of abduction. Investigation has commenced, and efforts to locate the children and apprehend the suspect are ongoing,” he stated.
