Gunmen Raid Immigration Office in Ogbomoso, Allegedly Seize Officers’ Firearms

Tension gripped Ogbomoso on Tuesday night after suspected gunmen reportedly attacked a Nigeria Immigration Service office and carted away firearms belonging to officers on duty. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement as investigations continue into the brazen assault.
Suspected gunmen have reportedly attacked a Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) office in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, overpowering officers on duty and making away with firearms in a late-night operation.
The incident, which has raised fresh security concerns in the area, was said to have occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the immigration office located along the Ogbomoso–Ilorin Motorway, close to an NNPC filling station.
Sources familiar with the incident said the attackers stormed the facility while business activities were still ongoing at the nearby Ayanyan Cattle Market, a busy commercial hub in the area.
According to reports, the armed men caught officers on duty off guard, overpowering them before seizing weapons from the facility.
The exact number of firearms taken during the operation could not be independently confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
After carrying out the attack, the assailants reportedly escaped under the cover of darkness, leaving security agencies scrambling to piece together details of the incident.
The latest attack comes amid heightened security concerns in parts of Oyo State following recent reports of kidnappings and armed attacks in some communities.
Police Yet to Receive Official Briefing
When contacted for confirmation, the Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said he had not yet been officially briefed on the development.
“I have not been briefed on the incident at this time. I will provide updates as soon as the necessary information becomes available,” the police spokesman said.
As of Wednesday morning, neither the Nigeria Immigration Service nor other security agencies had issued an official statement regarding the reported attack.
Authorities are expected to launch a full investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, identify those responsible, and recover any stolen weapons.
Residents and commuters in the area have also called for increased security presence along the Ogbomoso–Ilorin corridor, which serves as a major route linking Oyo State with parts of northern Nigeria.
For now, many questions remain unanswered as security agencies work to establish exactly what transpired and track down the perpetrators behind the daring raid.
