Panic in Ibadan as Gunmen Abduct Ex-Power Minister Adelabu’s Sister-in-Law, Twin Children
Family members of the former minister’s younger brother reportedly seized by armed kidnappers in a brazen attack along the Challenge axis of Ibadan.
Tension has gripped Ibadan following the reported abduction of the wife and twin children of the younger brother of former Minister of Power and APC governorship aspirant, Chief Adebayo Adelabu. The victims were allegedly kidnapped by armed men while travelling within the Oyo State capital.
Suspected kidnappers have reportedly abducted the wife and twin children of the younger brother of former Minister of Power and prominent APC chieftain, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The incident was said to have occurred on Monday morning around the Challenge area of the state capital, sending shockwaves through political circles and residents of the city.
According to information made available by one of Adelabu’s media aides, Femi Awogboro, the victims were intercepted and taken away by unidentified gunmen while travelling within the city.
Awogboro identified the victims as Laide Adelabu, the wife of Adelabu’s younger brother, and her twin children, Peter and Paul.
“Adelabu’s junior brother’s wife (Laide), together with her twins (Peter and Paul), was kidnapped this morning by unknown gunmen at Elewura, Challenge, Ibadan,” Awogboro disclosed.
Providing further details, he explained that the family had left their residence and was heading towards the expressway when the attackers struck.
“The family were going out this morning from Elewura to link the express when they were attacked and whisked away by the unknown kidnappers,” he said.
Fresh Security Concerns in Oyo
The reported abduction has heightened concerns over insecurity in Oyo State, coming amid ongoing public anxiety over recent incidents of kidnappings and attacks in parts of the state.
Residents of Ibadan and surrounding communities have increasingly called for stronger security measures to tackle criminal activities and protect lives and property.
As news of the incident spread, many residents expressed shock that such a high-profile family could become targets of kidnappers in broad daylight.
Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the Oyo State Police Command were still ongoing as of the time of filing this report.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the command was yet to independently verify the incident.
“I cannot independently verify this for now, but please hold on,” the police spokesman stated.
Authorities have not yet released further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the alleged kidnapping or any ongoing rescue efforts.
