Notably, the encounter closely follows the tragic building collapse that occurred just a day prior, leading to concerns that the discussions might pertain to the unfortunate incident.
The building collapse incident, which took place on Wednesday, August 23, resulted in the tragic loss of two lives, leaving an additional 37 individuals wounded. Vanguard’s report suggested that Wike, as the newly inaugurated FCT Minister, would provide President Tinubu with a detailed account of the calamitous event, including casualty figures and damage assessments.
Moreover, Nyesom Wike’s choice of transportation for his first official day as minister has sparked a debate within the political sphere. Arriving at the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) premises on Tuesday, August 22, Wike chose an armored Lexus LX 600 SUV, proudly displaying the license plate ‘FCT – 01′. This decision to ride in luxury has led to discussions concerning the appropriateness of such a vehicle for an official government figure.
As per official information, the price of the aforementioned Lexus SUV starts at a staggering $100,115, which roughly translates to N75,764,028.55 in local currency. The extravagant choice of vehicle has raised eyebrows, given the socioeconomic context and the expectations associated with public officials’ conduct.
Despite the attention garnered by his transportation choice, Minister Nyesom Wike has taken on his official duties. As a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wike’s appointment has drawn both interest and controversy within the political landscape. His actions and decisions will undoubtedly be under scrutiny, as noted by the advice extended by Shehu Sani through social media platform X (Twitter), urging the new minister to exercise prudence and responsibility in his new capacity.
