Amidst the escalating political turmoil in Rivers State, the Presidency has issued a statement emphasizing President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to maintaining impartiality in the ongoing feud between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor turned Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The rift between Governor Fubara and Minister Wike has reached a boiling point, with both parties engaged in a bitter power struggle since Fubara assumed office less than one year ago, despite Wike’s initial influence in his emergence.
In a bid to quell the crisis, President Tinubu previously intervened, facilitating a peace accord between the warring factions. However, the truce proved short-lived as hostilities resumed shortly after.
The situation further escalated when a Rivers High Court issued an injunction restraining lawmakers aligned with Wike from acting as members of the state assembly, exacerbating tensions within the political landscape.
Addressing the matter during an interview on TVC, Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, reiterated President Tinubu’s stance of impartiality, dismissing any expectations of the President taking sides in the conflict.
Ngelale underscored that President Tinubu is committed to ensuring that all stakeholders have the necessary support to carry out their duties effectively. He emphasized the President’s determination to prevent any attempts to impede the functioning of the Rivers State Government from serving the interests of its people.
In light of these developments, stakeholders are urged to recognize the President’s neutrality and focus on constructive dialogue to resolve the political impasse in Rivers State, with the ultimate aim of fostering stability and progress for the region.
