According to Ibe, Atiku had advocated for the presidential ticket to be zoned to the Southeast, but Wike’s opposing stance hindered this move.
Obi, who served as the PDP’s vice presidential candidate in the 2019 elections, parted ways with the party ahead of the 2023 elections, joining the Labour Party (LP). Despite securing significant votes in the subsequent elections, both the PDP and LP faced defeat to the All Progressives Congress (APC), exacerbating internal rifts within the opposition.
