Peter University to Hold Inaugural Matriculation Ceremony on April 19

Peter University is set to host its inaugural matriculation ceremony on Friday, April 19, marking a significant milestone for the institution located in Achina and Onne towns of Aguata and Orumba North local councils in Anambra State.

His Eminence, Peter Cardinal Okpaleke, will serve as the chief host for the event, which is expected to be graced by Catholic bishops of Awka and Nnewi, governors, notable academic scholars, government officials, political leaders, and industry captains from the South East region.

The ceremony will induct over two hundred new students into the university, which has received full resource verification and course approval from the National University Commission (NUC) and other relevant agencies.

Peter University prides itself on offering a robust academic environment rooted in quintessential Catholic values of scholarship and moral integrity. The institution also provides students with leadership training and opportunities to participate in professional conferences and seminars.

With four faculties, twelve departments, and twenty-four programs spanning humanities, social and management sciences, science and computing technologies, health and allied sciences, and law (awaiting approval from the Council of Legal Education), the university aims to produce competent and focused graduates capable of addressing Nigeria’s and Africa’s challenges.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Rev. Fr. (Prof) Chukwuemenam Emmanuel Umezinwa, outlined the institution’s mission to nurture a new generation of Nigerian youths distinguished by their knowledge, social responsibility, and productivity. He emphasized the university’s commitment to integrating digital literacy into its curriculum, with courses focusing on information sciences, IT, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies.

Fr. Umezinwa, a versatile academic and former Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University on Academic Matters, envisions Peter University as a bridge between academia and society. Remarkably, the university has already completed the installation of fiber optics cables for internet access, boasting a 35-meter mast and a state-of-the-art data center. Additionally, the institution is implementing modern Learning Management Systems (LMS) to facilitate remote learning and access to lectures globally.
