In a recent operation, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Port Harcourt Zonal Command, apprehended 26 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud activities. The arrests took place at the Nigeria Television Authority and Choba axes of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, following credible intelligence gathered by the commission.
According to EFCC’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale, the suspects were targeted due to suspicions surrounding their involvement in internet-related crimes. Upon their apprehension, law enforcement officials recovered various items from the suspects, including a variety of mobile phones, laptops, and six luxury cars.
This crackdown on internet fraud underscores the persistent challenge of cybercrime in Nigeria, particularly among the youth population. With the proliferation of technology and increasing internet access across the country, young individuals are increasingly drawn to illicit activities such as online scams, phishing, and identity theft.
