Police Arrest Father, Son and Three Others in Ogun Over Firearms, Theft Cases
Ogun Police recover four firearms, stolen phone in intelligence-led operations across Ilisan Remo, Ode Remo and Afon divisions.
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested five suspects, including a father and his son, in separate operations across the state. Police also recovered four firearms and a stolen mobile phone as part of ongoing intelligence-led crackdowns on crime and illegal possession of weapons.
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a father and his son alongside three other suspects in a series of coordinated intelligence-led operations across different parts of the state, recovering four firearms and a stolen mobile phone.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the arrests were carried out by operatives of the Afon, Ilisan Remo and Ode Remo Divisions as part of ongoing efforts to curb violent crime and illegal arms possession.
In the first operation, police officers from the Afon Division arrested Fatai Adegbola and his son, Waliu Adegbola, aged 23, following a report of theft received on May 22, 2026.
The younger Adegbola was accused of stealing a Tecno Android phone worth N180,000 from a residential apartment on May 8. Acting on intelligence, officers tracked and recovered the stolen phone, which later led to a search of the suspects’ residence.
During the search, conducted under a duly obtained warrant, operatives reportedly discovered a locally made pistol and a dane gun allegedly concealed within the premises.
Both suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue into their possible involvement in other criminal activities.
In a separate incident, operatives of the Ilisan Remo Division recovered a locally fabricated pistol with one live cartridge during a routine patrol at Ilisan Remo Roundabout on May 27, 2026.
Police said the weapon was found abandoned and has been secured as an exhibit while efforts continue to trace its origin and ownership.
Similarly, officers of the Ode Remo Division arrested a 25-year-old suspect, Inioluwa Adesanya, over the alleged theft of a dane gun belonging to a resident.
Investigators alleged that the suspect gained access to the victim’s home under the guise of assisting a carpenter before stealing the firearm. The suspect reportedly confessed during interrogation and admitted to being affiliated with a cult group.
The police said the recovered firearm has been secured as evidence, while the suspect is being prepared for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta for further investigation and prosecution.
The command confirmed that all cases have been transferred to the SCID for discreet investigation.
Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved for their professionalism and urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely information on suspicious activities.
