Adeleke Dismisses Rumoured Bandit Invasion in Osun, Assures Residents of Tight Security

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has moved to calm growing fears among residents following reports of an alleged bandit invasion in several communities across the state.
The governor reassured citizens that there is no security breach threatening schools or communities, describing the reports as a false alarm designed to create panic among the public.
The rumours, which spread rapidly across social media platforms, sparked anxiety in towns including Ila, Ikirun, Obaagun, and Osogbo. Concerned parents reportedly rushed to schools to pick up their children amid fears of possible kidnappings.
In some viral videos circulating online, students were seen running out of public schools in Ikirun after reports of suspected bandits allegedly approaching the area.
Reacting to the situation on Tuesday, Governor Adeleke, through a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, urged residents to remain calm and continue their daily activities without fear.
According to the governor, security assessments conducted in border communities and across the state found no evidence of bandit attacks or kidnappings linked to the circulating reports.
“I task our people to go about their normal activities without fear. Our government has taken steps to secure our schools. The Ministry of Education and the relevant security agencies have worked out a security strategy that is being implemented,” the governor stated.
Adeleke further revealed that the Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) recently refurbished by his administration are fully operational and ready for deployment to reinforce security efforts wherever necessary.
The governor alleged that the false reports may have been orchestrated by individuals seeking to destabilize the state and create unnecessary tension among residents.
Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command has also debunked the claims of a bandit invasion.
The Command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, described the reports as unfounded rumours and cautioned individuals spreading misinformation against causing public panic through fake news.
Security agencies have urged residents to verify information through official channels and avoid sharing unconfirmed reports capable of generating fear and confusion.
The latest development comes as authorities continue efforts to strengthen security across Osun State and reassure residents of the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
