Economists warn that the persistent food inflation could further weaken household purchasing power and slow down economic recovery efforts. They note that when food inflation rises faster than general inflation, low-income earners are the hardest hit.
In open markets, traders expressed frustration, saying unstable fuel prices and transport fares continue to drive up the cost of bringing goods from rural farms to urban centers. Some also complained about storage losses due to poor infrastructure and lack of preservation facilities.
