FCT minister insists no individual has been chosen to succeed Fubara as Rainbow Coalition prepares for 2027 elections
Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has dismissed reports that he endorsed Ogundu Kingsley Chinda for the 2027 Rivers governorship race, stating that the Rainbow Coalition will collectively determine the candidate through a democratic process.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has denied claims that he has endorsed Ogundu Kingsley Chinda as the preferred candidate to succeed Siminalayi Fubara as Governor of Rivers State in 2027.
Wike stated that the decision on who will emerge as the governorship candidate of the Rainbow Coalition would be made collectively by members of the political alliance rather than by any individual.
The Rainbow Coalition is a political structure made up of members from the Peoples Democratic Party, All Progressives Congress, Labour Party and Action Alliance.
Speaking during a luncheon organised for coalition candidates in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike dismissed reports suggesting that a governorship candidate had already been selected ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the former Rivers State governor, no final decision has been taken regarding the governorship ticket, stressing that all interested aspirants would be given the opportunity to contest and demonstrate their popularity among party members and supporters.
He maintained that the coalition remains committed to a transparent and democratic process in selecting candidates for future elections.
Wike further emphasized that the strength of the Rainbow Coalition lies in its collective decision-making approach, noting that consultations and internal processes would ultimately determine who flies the coalition’s flag in the governorship election.
His remarks come amid growing political speculation over the future leadership of Rivers State and the possible contenders expected to emerge ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
