LP Offers Free Nomination Forms to Aspirants in Nasarawa State
Party says move will reduce financial burden on candidates and promote grassroots participation ahead of 2027 elections
The Labour Party in Nasarawa State has announced that nomination and expression of interest forms will be issued free of charge to all aspirants, saying the policy is aimed at encouraging wider participation and reducing money-driven politics.
The Labour Party (LP) in Nasarawa State has declared that expression of interest and nomination forms will be issued free of charge to all aspirants seeking elective positions under its platform.
The state chairman of the party, Alexander Umbugu, made this known on Friday while speaking with journalists, saying the initiative is intended to reduce the financial burden on political aspirants and encourage genuine service-oriented leadership.
Umbugu said the party believes politics should not be driven by wealth, but by the willingness to serve the people, adding that excessive nomination fees in other political parties discourage capable candidates.
He explained that the Labour Party belongs to all Nigerians regardless of economic status, noting that its symbol represents unity within the family structure.
“If you look at our logo, it is Papa, Mama and pikin. The people you are seeing, not all their fingers are equal. We want to treat them as if they don’t have money like other people; they should come to our party, and we are going to do the needful for them to come and contest. We have done that in 2023; many people won the election under the Labour Party free of charge,” he said.
Umbugu added that the party has made available nomination and expression of interest forms for various elective positions, including governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and State Assembly seats, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He criticised high nomination fees charged by other political parties, claiming that some aspirants pay millions of naira to contest elections.
“How can someone get that kind of money? If the person gets to that position, he will not care to work for the people; he will want to make returns on his investments, so in the Labour Party we are looking at how people will come so that we offer the dividends of democracy to the people,” he said.
The LP chairman, who aligned with the Abure-led faction of the party, also commented on internal party disputes, expressing confidence that the Supreme Court would resolve the leadership crisis in favour of Barr. Julius Abure.
He stated that his executive emerged from a congress held in December 2025 and reaffirmed plans to conduct primaries to field candidates for upcoming elections, including the bye-election for the Nasarawa North Senatorial District seat.
