Ganduje presents N147.9bn budget estimate to State Assembly

 

Govermor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state has presented the state’s 2021 budget estimate of over N147.9 billion to the state House of Assembly for approval.

Ganduje presented the budget during the House Plenary held in Kano on Tuesday.

He said the budget, tagged ‘Budget for Economic Recovery and Sustainable Development’, will focus on education and infrastructure development.

The Governor explained that over N74 billion was proposed for the Capital expenditure, representing 55.5 percent, while N72.2 billion will go for the recurrent expenditure, representing over 40 percent.

He stressed that the total recurrent revenue to be collected is estimated at the sum of N106,121,457,794.

The Governor said it consists of N24,000,256,503 as internally generated revenue (IGR) and N52,250,000,00 as revenue from the Federation Account, value added tax (VAT) stands at N28,401,874,754.

Governor Ganduje noted that other receipts stands at N1,469,326,537,while the total recurrent revenue is lower than that of the last year of 2020 by N604,692,618.

According to the governor, over N37.8 billion, representing 25 percent of the whole budget will go to the Education sector, while N11.8 billion goes to the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.

He further explained that over N25.5 billion will go to the Health sector, and environment will receive over N1.1 billion in the 2021 budget.

Ganduje explained that the proposed N2.5 billion for the Information sector, over N9 billion for water resources, N5.2 billion for judiciary while religious affairs will get N557 billion.

In his remarks, the Speaker of the State Assembly, Alhaji Abdulazeez Garba-Gafasa, said that the lawmakers would speedily consider and pass the budget.

He, however, said that the lawmakers would properly scrutinise the budget and follow due process before its passage.

The speaker pledged that the assembly would continue to work together with the government for the speedy development of the state.
