Bandits Strike Kogi Community: One Killed, Over 30 Passengers Abducted in Midnight Raid

A deadly bandit attack on Ayegunle Bunu community in Kogi State has left one person dead and more than 30 others abducted. The victims include local residents and passengers travelling in a commercial bus intercepted by the gunmen during the early hours of Monday. Security agencies have launched rescue operations as investigations continue.
Ayegunle Bunu community in Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State was thrown into fear and uncertainty in the early hours of Monday following a deadly bandit attack that claimed one life and resulted in the abduction of more than 30 people.
According to preliminary reports, the attack occurred at approximately 2:25 a.m. when heavily armed assailants invaded the area, creating panic among residents. During the operation, one person was reportedly killed, while another sustained injuries.
Community sources revealed that among those kidnapped were two residents of Ayegunle Bunu—a man and a woman. However, the majority of the victims were said to be passengers travelling in a commercial bus that was intercepted by the attackers while passing through the community.
The incident has heightened concerns over security challenges in parts of Kogi State, with residents calling for urgent government intervention and stronger security measures to protect lives and property.
Confirming the attack, the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, spoke to journalists on the sidelines of the Passing-Out Parade of 565 newly trained police constables at the Command Headquarters in Lokoja.
The police commissioner stated that investigations into the incident are ongoing and assured the public that security operatives have launched intensive rescue efforts aimed at securing the safe release of the abducted victims and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
As families anxiously await news of their loved ones, security agencies continue to intensify search operations in the affected area, while residents remain on edge over the latest wave of violence.
