Olubadan Chief Taofeek Adegoke Wins ADC Governorship Ticket for Oyo 2027

Businessman and traditional leader pledges infrastructure renewal, improved security, healthcare reforms, and quality education ahead of the governorship election.

Chief Taofeek Adegoke has emerged as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate for the 2027 Oyo State election after winning the party’s primary. Following his victory, Adegoke pledged to prioritise infrastructure, security, healthcare, education, and inclusive governance while calling for unity within the party ahead of the polls.

A prominent Ibadan traditional chief and businessman, Chief Taofeek Adegoke, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.

Adegoke secured victory during the party’s governorship primary election held on Saturday, defeating other aspirants in a closely contested exercise attended by party stakeholders and delegates from across the state.

Announcing the results, Chairman of the Screening Committee, Rasak Salinsile, stated that Adegoke polled 16,051 votes to clinch the party’s ticket. His closest challenger, Adebisi Ilaka, secured 11,415 votes, while Gbemileke Alagbe finished third with 241 votes.

Other contestants included former Oyo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Azeez Adeduntan, who recorded 155 votes, and Niyi Aborisade with 67 votes.

Speaking after his emergence, Adegoke thanked delegates and party members for the confidence placed in him, describing his victory as a collective mandate to drive accelerated growth and sustainable development in Oyo State.

He called on ADC members to remain united and strengthen mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 election.

Outlining his vision for the state, Adegoke promised that his administration, if elected, would focus on infrastructure development, enhanced security, improved healthcare services, quality education, and road rehabilitation.

According to him, Oyo State’s vast human and natural resources can only be fully harnessed through transparent leadership, responsible governance, and people-focused policies.

He emphasised that his government would pursue urban renewal initiatives, strengthen the state’s security framework, improve healthcare delivery, and raise educational standards while ensuring critical attention is given to road infrastructure.

Adegoke also expressed appreciation to the national leadership of the ADC, including former Senate President David Mark, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, assuring them that their trust in his candidacy would be justified.

In a message of unity, he extended an olive branch to fellow contestants, urging them and their supporters to work together in building a stronger party capable of winning the governorship election.

He added that the successful conduct of the primary reflected the ADC’s commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and party cohesion as preparations begin for the 2027 electoral contest.
