Anambra State, Ogidi Division’s police operatives have apprehended the commander of the Ojoto community vigilante group and two others in connection with the abduction and murder of Christian Oluchukwu Onah, a tricycle operator.

Onah, a 25-year-old tricycle rider from Ovoko community in Igbo-Eze South LGA, Enugu State, had been residing in Oba, Idemili South LGA, Anambra State. He was reported missing on May 28, 2023, after he failed to return from his daily tricycle transportation business.

His concerned neighbor in Oba raised the alarm about his whereabouts and promptly reported the situation to the police. The owner of the tricycle, which Onah operated under a hire purchase agreement, enlisted the services of a security tracker, ultimately leading to the discovery of a man found in possession of the missing tricycle.

During subsequent questioning, the man admitted to purchasing the tricycle from members of the Ojoto community vigilante group. Following the arrest of the vigilante member involved in the sale, he implicated the vigilante commander as the mastermind behind the abduction and subsequent murder of Christian. It was alleged that Christian’s body had been disposed of in Mmili John Ojoto, a well-known river in the area.

Emmanuel Onah, Christian’s father, who was devastated by the brutal murder of his hardworking son, has called for justice in the face of this heinous act. He expressed his anguish that the perpetrators have refused to disclose the location of his son’s burial site.

In his plea for a thorough investigation and the apprehension of all those involved in the killing, Emmanuel Onah appealed to the police for diligent prosecution to ensure the recovery of his son’s body.

When contacted for confirmation, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochi, stated that he had not yet been briefed on the incident. He assured that he would reach out to the concerned police division for an update.
