Iran Executes Man Convicted of Espionage for Israel’s Mossad

• Iranian authorities on Tuesday carried out the execution of a man convicted of espionage and intelligence cooperation on behalf of Israel’s Mossad agency, according to the country’s judiciary.

The judiciary’s official outlet reported that Gholamreza Khani Shakarab was executed after being found guilty of collaborating with what Iranian authorities described as the Israeli intelligence service.

According to the report, the sentence had previously been reviewed and upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court before being implemented.

Iranian authorities alleged that Shakarab played a leading operational role for Mossad outside the country and was involved in efforts to recruit individuals inside Iran for activities considered harmful to national security.

The judiciary further stated that security agencies carried out an intelligence operation that led to his return to Iran and subsequent arrest by intelligence forces linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Authorities also claimed that he had been assigned tasks involving travel within the region to support an alleged operation intended to create diplomatic and security consequences for Iran.

Officials did not immediately disclose details regarding the timing of his arrest or the exact date of sentencing.

The execution is one of several recent cases tied to security and espionage allegations during a period of heightened regional tensions.

On Monday, Iranian authorities also announced the execution of another individual convicted over armed attacks linked to anti-government unrest.

Earlier, another execution was reported in connection with espionage allegations during ongoing regional conflict developments.

Iran continues to record one of the world’s highest numbers of executions annually, according to international human rights organisations including Amnesty International.
