Enugu 2027: Sampson Nnamani Defeats Ex-Minister Uche Nnaji to Secure PDP Governorship Ticket

PDP candidate records a commanding victory in the party’s primary election as preparations intensify for the 2027 governorship contest in Enugu State.

Chief Sampson Nnamani has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2027 Enugu election after defeating former Minister of Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, in a decisive primary. Nnamani described the exercise as peaceful and called for unity ahead of the general election.

ABUJA — Chief Sampson Nnamani has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 election in Enugu State after recording a sweeping victory over former Minister of Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, during the party’s primary election.

Nnamani secured 7,542 votes to defeat Nnaji, who polled 121 votes in the exercise conducted across the state’s 17 local government areas.

The outcome further consolidates Nnamani’s influence within the PDP ahead of the 2027 governorship election while representing a significant political setback for Nnaji, who had sought to strengthen his political standing in Enugu following his service in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Announcing the results, the PDP Returning Officer, High Chief Wisdom Okoye, stated that the primary election was conducted in accordance with the party’s constitution and guidelines approved by the National Working Committee (NWC).

According to him, a total of 7,663 accredited votes were recorded, with Nnamani emerging victorious after securing the highest number of valid votes cast.

Okoye described the process as transparent, peaceful, and orderly, noting that delegates freely exercised their democratic rights throughout the election.

Speaking after his victory, Nnamani expressed appreciation to delegates for what he described as a peaceful and democratic process.

He also commended the leadership of the PDP at both the national and state levels for ensuring a smooth and credible primary election.

Extending an olive branch to his opponent, Nnamani called on Uche Nnaji and his supporters to unite with the party as preparations begin for the 2027 governorship election.

According to him, collective effort and party unity will be crucial in positioning the PDP for victory in the forthcoming election.
