Four-time French Open champion Iga Swiatek made an impressive start to her Roland Garros campaign, defeating Australia’s Emerson Jones in straight sets to secure a place in the second round.

Swiatek delivered a composed and confident performance to seal a 6–1, 6–2 victory in just over one hour on Court Philippe Chatrier.
The match marked her first Grand Slam appearance since beginning work with Francisco Roig, the former coach of Rafael Nadal, and she showed signs of returning to her strongest form.
The Polish star is aiming to reclaim the French Open title after previously winning the tournament in three consecutive years from 2022 to 2024 before falling to Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals last season.
Seeded third for this year’s tournament, Swiatek entered the competition among the leading contenders after building momentum with a semi-final appearance at the Italian Open earlier this month.
She quickly took control of the opening round encounter, racing to a one-set lead and establishing a commanding advantage early in the second set.
Although 17-year-old wildcard Emerson Jones improved and managed to hold serve later in the match, she was unable to threaten an upset against the experienced champion.
Swiatek eventually closed out the match with ease and will now face Czech player Sara Bejlek in the second round as she continues her pursuit of another French Open title.
