Manchester United has appointed Michael Carrick as permanent head coach after the former midfielder guided the club to a third-place Premier League finish and secured Champions League qualification during his interim spell.
Manchester United F.C. has confirmed the appointment of Michael Carrick as the club’s permanent head coach following his successful spell in interim charge.
The announcement was made on Friday, with the club stating that Carrick had signed a new contract to continue leading the team.
Carrick, 44, stepped into the role on an interim basis after the departure of Ruben Amorim in January and oversaw a strong turnaround in form.
Under his leadership, Manchester United secured a third-place finish in the Premier League and booked qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Reacting to the appointment, Carrick reflected on his long association with the club and expressed pride at being entrusted with the responsibility of leading the team.
“From the moment that I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United. Carrying the responsibility of leading our special football club fills me with immense pride,” he said.
He praised the commitment shown by the players during his time in charge and stated that the focus now is to build on recent progress.
“Throughout the past five months, this group of players have shown they can reach the standards of resilience, togetherness and determination that we demand here.
“Now it’s time to move forward together again, with ambition and a clear sense of purpose. Manchester United and our incredible supporters deserve to be challenging for the biggest honours again.”
Carrick previously enjoyed a distinguished playing career at Manchester United and now begins a new chapter with the club as permanent manager.
