63-Year-Old Man Arrested Over Suspected Hard Drug Trafficking in Akwa Ibom

Police in Akwa Ibom have arrested a 63-year-old man allegedly transporting two bags of suspected Indian hemp, with investigators now probing claims that the substances originated from a wider supply network.
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 63-year-old man for allegedly transporting large quantities of hard drugs suspected to be Indian hemp.
The suspect, identified as Asuquo Etim of Etebi Village in Esit Eket Local Government Area, was arrested on Wednesday at about 9:30 a.m. during a surveillance and stop-and-search operation carried out by security operatives following credible intelligence.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued in Uyo by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John.
According to the police, the suspect was intercepted while allegedly transporting two large bags containing substances suspected to be illicit drugs from Atabong Park toward Esit Eket.
The command disclosed that a thorough search led to the recovery of the exhibits, while preliminary findings suggested that the substances were allegedly handed to the suspect by a serving soldier for onward delivery and sale at Ibaka in Mbo Local Government Area.
Police authorities said investigations are ongoing to identify and dismantle the wider network linked to the alleged operation and to arrest other individuals connected to the case.
The command also warned individuals involved in drug trafficking and related criminal activities to desist or face legal consequences.
Residents were further encouraged to continue providing timely and credible information to support security operations and crime prevention efforts across the state.
