INEC Fixes June 20 for Rivers South-East Senatorial By-Election

Electoral commission schedules poll across seven local government areas, assures voters of a free and credible process.

INEC has scheduled June 20 for the Rivers South-East Senatorial District by-election, with voting set to take place across 88 wards and 1,629 polling units in seven local government areas.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the by-election to fill the vacant Rivers South-East Senatorial District seat will be held on June 20.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers State, Johnson Alalibo, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Thursday in Port Harcourt.

According to Alalibo, voting will commence at 8:00 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m.

He stated that the election would be conducted across 88 registration areas and 1,629 polling units spread across the seven local government areas within the senatorial district.

The affected local government areas include Andoni, Opobo/Nkoro, Eleme, Tai, Oyigbo, Khana and Gokana.

The REC assured residents, political stakeholders and voters that the commission remains committed to delivering a free, fair and credible electoral process.

He also called on eligible voters across the senatorial district to participate peacefully and responsibly in the by-election.

INEC said preparations are underway to ensure a smooth conduct of the exercise across all affected communities.
