Following the collapse of a three-storey building under construction at the Nkaliki area of Abakaliki on Wednesday, Governor Dave Umahi has announced the indefinite suspension of members of Abakaliki Capital Territory Development Board.
The board has Dr Uche Onwe as chairman.
In a statement issued by the Secretary of Ebonyi State Government, Dr Kenneth Ugbala, the indefinite suspension which was sequel to the directive of the governor was with immediate effect.
He noted that the indefinite suspension was as result of their failure to supervise buildings within the Capital City which led to the collapse of three (3) Story building along Nkaliki road in Abakaliki Local Government Area.
Ugbala said his office would soon announce a new taskforce on building approval, construction and supervision. The taskforce shall be responsible for building approvals, construction and supervision of all sites within the capital city.
The release asked suspended members of Abakaliki Capital Territory Development Board to handover government property in their possession to SA to Governor on Capital City before the close of work on Wednesday 22nd July, 2020.
