Former PDP Senators Tofowomo, Akinyelure Emerge ADC Candidates for Ondo 2027 Elections
Opposition party unveils National Assembly lineup as ex-lawmakers and political figures secure tickets ahead of the general polls
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has unveiled key candidates for the 2027 National Assembly elections in Ondo State, with former PDP senators Nicholas Tofowomo and Patrick Akinyelure leading the party’s senatorial lineup as preparations intensify ahead of the polls.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ondo State has unveiled its candidates for the 2027 National Assembly elections, with former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senators Nicholas Tofowomo and Patrick Akinyelure securing senatorial tickets.
Tofowomo, who represented Ondo South in the 9th National Assembly, emerged as the ADC candidate for Ondo South Senatorial District, while former two-term senator Patrick Akinyelure clinched the party’s ticket for Ondo Central Senatorial District.
For Ondo North, former PDP governorship aspirant Foluso Mayowa Adefemi was selected as the party’s senatorial candidate.
In the House of Representatives contests, philanthropist and former PDP leader Hon. Balarabe Akinwumi secured the ticket for Akure North/South Federal Constituency.
Also among the party’s candidates is former Ondo State representative on the Niger Delta Development Commission and former NNPP governorship candidate, Hon. Gbenga Edema, who will contest for the Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency seat.
Other House of Representatives candidates announced by the party include Omosuyi Abayomi for Irele/Okitipupa, Samuel Adesida for Owo/Ose, Olafunmiloye Olufemi for Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo/Odigbo, alongside Samuel Akinkunola, Adegunloye Adeusi and Abiloye Olutade for Akoko Southeast/Southwest.
Speaking after his emergence, Akinwumi expressed confidence in the party’s chances, stating that dissatisfaction with governance at both state and federal levels would work in ADC’s favour.
He said his close connection with constituents and understanding of local challenges would enable him to deliver effective representation and promote economic opportunities if elected.
Tofowomo also expressed optimism about returning to the National Assembly, pointing to projects and empowerment initiatives executed during his previous tenure, including community infrastructure and skills development programmes.
Akinyelure explained that his move from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the ADC was influenced by internal party challenges and concerns over public perception of government performance.
He added that the ADC expected to attract more political support following the outcome of party primaries across the state.
Meanwhile, Ondo State ADC Chairman, Chief Tola Alabere, described the conduct of the primaries as evidence of the party’s readiness for the 2027 elections.
According to him, the party expects to strengthen its position ahead of the general elections through what it described as growing political realignments within the state.
