Young Nigerian professor of computer engineering to take over leadership of JAMB, bringing over 15 years of expertise in digital systems, examination reform, and institutional transformation.

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of JAMB, ahead of the exit of Professor Is-haq Oloyede in 2026. The young computer engineering professor is expected to bring his expertise in digital systems and institutional reform to strengthen Nigeria’s tertiary admission body.

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), marking a significant leadership transition in Nigeria’s education assessment system.

Professor Aina will succeed the outgoing Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, whose second term is expected to end on July 31, 2026.

A highly regarded academic and systems expert, Professor Aina is widely recognized for his contributions to national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector reform. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.

Currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Aina began his early exposure to JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained practical experience in admissions systems and data-driven processes. Over the years, he has built a strong reputation in examination reform and digital optimization of institutional operations.

With more than 15 years of post-graduation experience, he has advised federal and state governments on digital transformation, system design, and administrative reform. At 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of computer engineering and is set to become the youngest Registrar in JAMB’s history.

Professor Aina has also served as a consultant to key examination bodies including NECO and NABTEB, as well as various state ministries of education, focusing on ICT integration, examination integrity, and process efficiency.

He is a member of several professional bodies, including the COREN, Nigerian Society of Engineers, IEEE, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

A statement credited to presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga noted that President Tinubu expects the new Registrar to leverage his expertise to further strengthen JAMB’s operations and advance the reforms initiated by his predecessor.
