Policeman who shot teenager for impregnating a girl, detained in Rivers

The trigger happy policeman who reportedly shot a 19-year-old boy identified as Ledisi Kote in the leg for impregnating a young girl in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers state has been ‘disarmed and detained’.

The said officer attached to the Kpor Division in the Gokana Local Government Area of the state had on Friday, August 21, 2020, allegedly stormed Ledisi family house in the K. Dere community around 7am and demanded to see the 19-year-old boy.

Eyewitness account had it that when his family members could not immediately bring him out, the cop went into the teenager’s room, brought him out and shot him in the leg.

As a result of the unfortunate development, the boy in question had undergone first surgery and has been recommended for more surgeries.

But, the spokesman of the Rivers State police command, Nnamdi Omoni who gave an update on the incident said based on the orders of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan, the officer was arrested and detained.

Omoni, said the officer is presently detained at the State Criminal Investigative Department, pending the conclusion of investigations into the incident.

“Upon the receipt of the matter he (the indicted police officer) was disarmed and detained in the state Criminal Investigative Department and investigation is currently ongoing as ordered by the CP.

“The 19-year old boy is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.”
