The Borno State Independent Electoral Commission (BOSIEC) says elections into local government councils in Borno State will hold on November 28, 2020.

The electoral body also said all political activities in the state could now commence preparatory to the election.

The election which was earlier scheduled to hold in June had to be suspended because of COVID-19.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, the Chairman of BOSIEC, Alhaji Abdu Usman said November 28 has been fixed for the elections into the 27 councils of the state.

“I have the singular honour and privilege to address you today (Monday) on the resumption of political activities in Borno State.

“It is also to resume full political activities in order to entrust full democratically elected leaders at the grass root or third tier of government,” Usman said.

He said the processes to enable the Commission to supervise and ensure credible election in all the 27 local government areas of the state are now in place.

Usman said: “Modalities have been put in place with the time table for the electoral processes which is being kick started today with the press briefing which is aimed at notifying all stakeholders as well as political parties who may be interested in vying for various offices.”

He assured of the position of the Commission to conduct free, fair and credible election that “will stand out as best.”
