Edo Guber: How I rejected N20m bribe to work against Obaseki by PDP Ward chairman
Ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State, the Oredo Ward 1 chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Goodluck Okhurobo said on Tuesday that he had turned down a N20 million bribe offered him allegedly by supporters of the Gubernatorial Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu to not only deliver his ward but to also woo his fellow ward chairmen.
Okhurobo who spoke to newsmen in Benin however vowed that all the PDP Ward chairmen in the state had pledged their readiness to deliver the state to Governor Godwin Obaseki, insisting that no amount of inducements would make them to change their position.
He alleged that the opposition APC had deployed several strategies to penetrate the stronghold of the governor especially in Oredo Local Government Area of the state, “but would continue to meet brickwall”.
The Ward chairman who narrated his encounter with those he claimed were agents of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, candidate of APC in the September 19 gubernatorial election, said: “Some supporters of the APC governorship candidate came to my house in Ekehuan Road area of Benin City, with bags of money (N20 million) to beg me to support their candidate in the September 19 election.
“I rejected their bribe money and sent them out of my house. I told them that character, capacity and not money, will decide the winner of the forthcoming election.”
Okhuarobo added: “A lot is at stake in the forthcoming election and we will not trade off our future well-being for a pot of porridge. We want Obaseki to continue with his giant strides in all the sectors of the state.

“Edo people have been the greatest beneficiaries of a well governed state in the last three years and seven months, under Obaseki. No sane man will exchange Obaseki with the APC candidate.”

According to the Ward leader, “They are afraid of losing the election, which in my opinion, they have already lost, because of the bad product they are trying hard to market to Edo people, whose antecedent we know so well.
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to Governor Godwin Obaseki on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, has advised Pastor Ize-Iyamu, to face the people of the state with his agenda instead of sponsoring protests over non-existent issues.
“There is no such thing as N20 billion debt proposal by the Edo State Government, and Edo people cannot be distracted by such wild claim,” Osagie said.
The Governor’s Aide stressed that “it is ridiculous that on a day the APC candidate is billed to appear in court on the N700 million corruption trial, he comes up with a bogus claim of a non-existent debt proposal, and pay people to put up a protest around the court premises.
“Edo people are too intelligent to be swayed by such tantrums and staged drama of the absurd, being displayed by the APC candidate and his sponsored protesters.
