COVID – 19: Bayelsa demolishes illegal structures in market to enforce social distancing ‎

 

‎Bayelsa State Government on Monday commenced the demolition of illegal structures in the popular Swali Market in Yenagoa, the state capital.‎

The illegal structures are being removed to enforce compliance with social distancing in order to curb the spread of the COVID – 19 disease in the state. ‎‎

Many traders in the market, said to be the biggest in the state, occupy illegal structures on the roadside.

‎Chairman of Implementation Committee Bayelsa State Task Force on COVID-19, Dr. Inodu Apoku, said the illegal structures could lead to spread of the dreaded disease among traders and customers. ‎‎

‎Apoku, who is also the Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Health, said the government has already fumigated over 600 stalls inside the market.

According to him, the government wants to ensure that trading was conducted in a spacious environment at the market.
