Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum on Monday gave out N24 million to 1,200 indigent persons in the former headquarters of the Boko Haram caliphate.
A statement by the governor’s spokesman, Mallam Isa Gusau said his principal used the whole of Monday for humanitarian activities in Ngoshe, Warabe and Pulka, all in Gwoza Local Government Area of Southern Borno.
The statement said the governor at Ngoshe supervised the distribution of food items and N24m in cash to 1,200 vulnerable people who returned from Pulka and Maiduguri.
It said each household received a 50kg bag of maize, a bag of 50kg sorghum, a 25kg bag of beans, a 12.5kg bag of rice, five litres of cooking oil, other condiments and N20,000 cash.
The governor said the distribution was to continually support resettled communities before the rainy season during which they are expected to undertake agricultural activities in safety in farmlands as part of livelihoods.
It revealed that the displaced persons returned to Ngoshe on the 15th of October 2020, after clearance was given by the military.
The statement said the governor also used the opportunity to assess basic amenities, after which he ordered the State Universal Basic Education Board to immediately provide furniture and ensure Ngoshe Central Primary School is reopened in two weeks.
The school project, according to the statement, was at 95 percent completion level during the visit.
The governor was also said to have visited an the ongoing Ngoshe Primary Healthcare Centre where he charged the contractor to accelerate the completion to enable health workers provide services to the community.
The governor was also at Warabe in Gwoza local government where he inspected 350 houses being built for residents whose houses were destroyed by insurgents.
He was also at Pulka where he inspected the construction of mega secondary school.
