A major tragedy has befallen the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State following the death of 12 of its members in a road traffic accident.
Sources said the accident involving four vehicles occurred on Wednesday along Tsafe-Gusau road in the state.
The party’s spokesman in the state, Alhaji Farouk Shattima who confirmed the incident said the vehicles collided with trailer belonging to Dangote.
He said hundreds of party members had gone to welcome the state governor, Bello Matawalle who was returning from Abuja after attending some official engagement.
He further explained that the victims were trying to catch the governor’s convoy when their vehicle collided with a Dangote trailer and they died instantly.
“They were trying to meet the governor’s convoy and in a bid to do that, they had a head-on collision with Dangote trailer coming from the opposite direction,” he noted.
Those who lost their lives were buried according to Islamic rites.
