Katsina State Emergency Management, Agency (SEMA) says hundreds of people have been rendered homeless by flood in the state.
The Executive Secretary, Alhaji Babangida Nasamu told newsmen on Thursday that at least 15 out of 34 local government councils have been affected as rampaging flood continues to wreck havoc in the state.
The affected local government areas according to him include Danja, Kusada, Jibia, Kaita, Ingawa, Kankia, Kurfi and Bindawa
Others are Dutsi, Daura, Sandamu, Katsina, Faskari, Batagarawa, and Danmusa local government councils.
Victims of the flood, he said have been accommodated in primary schools and other public buildings in their areas.
Nasamu said record available to the agency were those captured from reports obtained from the councils, fueling insinuations that more councils may have been affected.
Already, individuals whose houses were affected are also reporting their situations to the agency.
Nasamu said the agency will soon commence tour to all affected Local Councils to assess the damage and possible assistance to the victims.
“As soon as we completed our assessment, we will forward our findings to the State Government for possible assistance to the victims,” he said.
Nasamu called on the people of the state especially those erected buildings on waterways to vacate their houses for their own safety and advice them to in future desist from constructing houses on drainages and waterways.
