COVID-19: Over 15,000 households benefit from hygiene facilities in Benue  

 

Determined to check further spread of the rampaging COVID-19 pandemic, the Benue State government in partnership with WaterAid Nigeria has provided handwashing facilities and other hygiene equipment to over 15,000 households in 15 Local Government Areas of the State.
The hygiene scale-up project funded by Heineken Africa Foundation (HAF) as an emergency Covid-19 response in Nigeria distributed 14,000 hygiene product packs comprising of detergents, toilet soaps and face masks as well as 340 hygiene reminder cue takeaways including danglers, calendars and hand fans.
Others equipment included 35 Inclusive and non-inclusive permanent handwashing stations, 100 semi-permanent handwashing facilities, over 8,200 Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Materials and stickers.
Sensitization on the need for people to improve on personal hygiene was also carried out in high risk places like markets, other public places and the conventional media to promote Hygiene Behavioural Change in the State.
The HAF Hygiene Scale-up Project Coordinator in the Benue State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (BERWASSA) Mr. Ephraim Hemben stated this at the presentation of progress report to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) stakeholders in Benue.
He commended the State government for releasing N4 million as counterpart funding for the project which aimed at improving personal hygiene and appealed to the people to continue observing safety protocols to prevent spread of the coronavirus that is ravaging the world.
The General Manager BERWASSA, Mrs. Torkwase Ikyaator, represented by the Head of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr. Matthew Terver Ge assured that the State government will continue to meet its obligation to enable development partners carry out people oriented projects in the State.
The benefiting LGAs include: Ogbadibo, Obi, Oju, Logo, Konshisha, Gwer, Guma and Makurdi, Okpokwu, Ukum Tarka, Katsina-Ala, Gboko, Buruku and Kwande.
