The days of “read and pass” are officially over in Anambra’s secondary schools. In a move to transform the state into a global tech hub, the Post-Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC) has launched a new curriculum for Junior Secondary Schools (JSS 1–3) that prioritizes hands-on production.
The curriculum now mandates training in 15 specialized fields, including:
High-Tech: IT & Robotics, CCTV/Intercom Installation, and GSM Repairs.
Green Energy: Solar System Installation and Maintenance.
Creative & Industrial: Garment Making, Interior Design, and POP Installation.
Trade Skills: Plumbing, Tiling, and Bakery.
Speaking at the launch in Awka, Prof. Nkechi Ikediugwu (Chairperson of the PPSSC) noted that traditional instruction is no longer enough. The goal is simple: to ensure every student leaving JSS 3 is not just a “certificate holder” but a job creator.
This “Skills Revolution” is backed by the recent recruitment of 8,115 specialized teachers and the rollout of 22 AI-powered Smart Schools across the 21 LGAs. For parents, this means a lower financial burden in the future, as their children gain marketable skills before even reaching university.
