OAUSTECH Student Akinteye Elected New NANS President
Former NANS Senate President wins 2026 convention election, pledges unity and renewed focus on students’ welfare nationwide.
Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology has emerged as the new National President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). Following a peaceful and closely contested convention in Abuja, the newly elected leader promised to strengthen student representation and build on the achievements of the outgoing administration.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has elected Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, a student of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), as its new national president following the conclusion of its 2026 national convention held at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja.
Akinteye, who previously served as President of the NANS Senate, emerged victorious after a competitive presidential contest involving five candidates.
He succeeds outgoing NANS President, Comrade Olushola Oladoja, whose tenure officially came to an end with the completion of the convention.
The election, conducted under security supervision with the presence of police officers and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), was widely described by participants as peaceful and orderly.
Speaking shortly after his victory, Akinteye expressed appreciation to delegates for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to sustain the progress recorded under the previous administration.
He promised to promote unity within the student body and ensure that NANS remains active in addressing issues affecting students across Nigeria.
According to him, the peaceful conduct of the convention reflected a growing spirit of cooperation and maturity within the association.
Akinteye also assured students that his administration would work towards strengthening student welfare, increasing engagement across campuses, and improving the visibility and impact of NANS nationwide.
Outgoing President Olushola Oladoja described the successful conduct of the convention as one of the highlights of his leadership, expressing confidence in Akinteye’s ability to lead the association effectively.
He noted that the new president possesses the capacity to build on existing achievements and wished him success in office.
Earlier, Chairman of the Independent Convention Planning Committee (ICPC), Comrade Omotayo Oladele Samuel, disclosed that more than 300 delegates took part in the convention.
The delegates comprised Student Union Government presidents, Senate presidents and other student leaders drawn from tertiary institutions across the country.
The presidential contest featured candidates from several universities, including OAUSTECH, the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, the Federal University of Technology Akure, Olabisi Onabanjo University and the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
