Pantami directs NCC to investigate illegal deduction complaints against Airtel

Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, on Tuesday ordered the Nigerian Communications Commission to investigate complaints against telecommunications company, Airtel.

Many Nigerians who are using the Airtel network are complaining that their Internet data, and call credit units, have been deducted without being used.

Pantami, who gave the directive in a tweet, said a report from the investigation should get to him in three days.

In a tweet on his Twitter handle, @DrIsaPantami, the minister said, “Please@NgComCommission, there is so much complaint about @AirtelNigeria reaching me yesterday and today. Investigate the complaint, ensure justice and send a report to me within three working days.

“In addition, customers/citizens must be respected and protected. Best wishes!”

Several subscribers on Airtel’s platform have in recent days complained of undue deductions by the service provider.

Some of the customers have taken to Twitter to voice their complaints.

One Hopeyemi, with the Twitter handle @dbizboi, said he contacted Airtel last week to ‎complain that his data was deducted without being used.

“I was told it will be refunded in two hours. It’s over seven days now and nothing has been done,” Hopeyemi complained.

The Twitter user added that Airtel’s customer service personnel dropped the call on him when he called again on Tuesday.

Another Twitter user, Abiodun Ajayi A., also complained that the credit in his call ‎card was deducted.

“Imagine waking up in the morning and seeing your account balance wiped out. Please @NgComCommission has to check the excesses of @AirtelNigeria,” he added.

Another complainant, Suleiman Abdulaziz, said, “Just last week, my @AirtelNigeria call card was wiped out too. It was like a dream.”
