Boko Haram kill 16 people in attack on Cameroon IDP camp

‎Boko Haram killed at least 16 people in an attack on a camp for internally displaced persons in northern Cameroon on Sunday.
The mayor of the area where the incident occurred, Mahamat Chetima Abba, confirmed the number of casualties after the overnight attack on the camp at ‎Nguetchewe.‎
“The toll is currently 16 dead, it is clear that it was Boko Haram that was responsible,” the mayor said.
The ara where the attack took place was described as a place where people hide from Boko Haram attacks.
Since 2014, Boko Haram has regularly launched attacks in the area known as the Far North, an impoverished tongue of land that lies between Chad to the east and Nigeria to the west.
“There had been a relative calm for a few weeks, but they took advantage of their knowledge of the terrain to bypass surveillance points and the positions of the security forces. They surprised us,” the mayor added.
