Against established public service rules and diplomatic courtesies, the recently appointed Ambassador to the Republic of Guinea Bissue, Mohammed Abubakar on Monday assumed duties at the Nigerian Embassy in Conakry.
Reliable sources at the Foreign Affairs Ministry headquarters in Abuja said other Ambassadors Designate were still awaiting final clearance before departure.
They noted that the action of Abubakar who hails from Jigawa State was at variance with established rules.
While calling for his immediate recall having abused the privilege conferred on him by President Muhammadu Buhari, the sources who refused to have their names in print said if such development was allowed to go unpunished, it would send a bad signal and adversely affect the nation’s diplomatic image.
“As you can see, Abubakar has become the black-sheep among his equals as he has assumed office while others are yet to be cleared to depart for official resumption.
“We can not deny the fact that his actions show a high level of gross insubordination, flagrant disrespect of constituted authority, and an act unbecoming of a Diplomat,” one of the sources noted.
Another source said his actions are at variance with the behavior expected of an Ambassador and therefore called on the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Mr. President to immediately recall him back to Nigeria and replace him with someone who depicts the ideals of foreign service, tranquility, and composure.
It was further gathered that the embattled Ambassador will be retiring in January 2023 and as such has less than 24 months to act as an Ambassador.
“It’s therefore a sheer waste of Government limited resources to send an Ambassador and his family and return him back after 20 months while scheduling another Ambassador to go to the mission when there are other qualified and competent officers to stay the required 3 years,” the source stated.
