#EndSARS: Killing of protesters unacceptable, condemnable says YPP

The Young Progressive Party, (YPP) on Friday condemned in strong terms, last Tuesday’s killing of hapless protesters at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos.

The party said it was more devastating that President Muhammadu Buhari could not make reference to the dastardly act in his nationwide broadcast on Thursday.

The party’s Women leader in Imo State, Amb Chika Uju who conveyed the party’s position while speaking to newsmen expressed dismay that young men who came out to add their voices to the plethora of challenges facing the nation met their Waterloo.

According to the YPP Women Leader, “YPP joins other well meaning citizens and groups to totally condemn the killing and injuring of innocent youths who were protesting end of SARS, Police Brutality and Military Harassment and Bad Governance across the country especially at Lekki Toll Gate, Lagos State, by armed forces.

“The burning of vehicles, houses and banks belonging to none protesters by armed forces and alleged sponsored hoodlums is uncalled for. Government should lend ears to the requests of the protesters,” she said.

The party also used the opportunity to demand that salaries and allowances of President, Vice President, Ministers, Governors and their deputies, House of Reps members and Senators be slashed.

She said it was unthinkable that in a country where majority of the citizens live below poverty line, political office holders continued to earn exorbitant salaries and allowances.

“There should be employment for youths. We need good roads, hospitals, functional, affordable healthcare system, constant electricity, clean regular water among others”.
