Re-elected Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki says the collective will of Edo people made it possible for him to emerge victorious in the just concluded gubernatorial election in the state.
In his first reacting minutes after he was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Obaseki expressed profound gratitude to the people of the state for once more reposing their confidence in him.
He said his re-election signaled the end of godfatherism in the South-South State.
“Words fail me in saluting our teeming supporters who displayed immense courage in the face of threats, intimidation, and brutalisation.
“The collective will of Edo people made it possible for us this triumph over godfatherism. Congratulations to Edo people.”
INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh had announced the result of the election on Sunday.
Obaseki of PDP polled 307,955 votes to defeat his closest rival, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, of the All Progressives Congress, who got 223,619 votes.
Rim-Rukeh, while declaring Obaseki winner, said the incumbent governor was returned elected after satisfying all requirements in line with the law.
Obaseki of PDP ran against APC’s Ize-Iyamu and 13 others.
