Edo Assembly commutes impeachment of Ex-Speaker, Okiye to resignation 

 

Edo State House of Assembly has commuted the impeachment of the recently impeached speaker of the House, Mr Francis Okiye to resignation.

The reversal of the impeachment followed a motion by the leader of the House, Mr Henry Okhuarobo who said the need became imperative due to appeals from their constituents to reverse the impeachment.

Consequently, the motion seconded by the member representing Esan North East two in the assembly, Mr Emmanuel Okoduwa which enjoyed the overwhelming support of the members was thereafter adopted by the House.

The House also recalled Mr Okiye from suspension and he later joined them to be part of the plenary.

The speaker of the House, Mr Marcus Onobun, who addressed newsmen immediately after plenary, clarified that the house was one and there was no rift between the executive and the legislature of the state.

On his part, the immediate past speaker, Mr Francis Okiye said he was pleased with the decision of the house.

He expressed his readiness to work with the present leadership of the house for the good of his constituency.

Meanwhile, the member representing Esan North East two, Mr Emmanuel Okoduwa had been appointed as the chief Whip of the house.

The House reconvened to hold an emergency session less than twenty four hours after it adjourned plenary till twenty-sixth of this month.
